Thundering hooves on spraying snow.
Daredevils on skis trailing
behind riderless horses in the
only skikjöring race in the world.
If you love winter
sports, the annual
White Turf
international horse races in
St. Moritz will
get your adrenaline going.
For three Sundays in February,
thoroughbreds and jockeys from
all over Europe come together
in this upscale
ski town to race across the
frozen St. Moritz lake. 10,000-12,000
racegoers swell the town
on race days and the lake is
turned into a winter-wonderland
racecourse with betting, gates,
viewing stands and all manner
of gourmet food and drink.
And as this is St. Moritz,
your 5-course lunch is served
with Nicolas Feuillatte
Champagne by the bottle.
Races take place
Feb 4, 11 and 18;
and this year promises to
be extra celebratory as 2007
marks the 100 year
anniversary of the event.
