In the running world,
heads turn if a Kenyan doesn’t win. In Kenya, heads turn
when a new pair of Nikes walks by.
Hope Runs: Partnering with Children to Outpace
Poverty aims to change that.
Building upon Kenya’s passion for cross
country running, the premise of the organization is a
revolutionary one – Hope Runs uses volunteer tourist
coaches to build an after school running program with
Kenyan AIDS orphans, bringing them the shoes,
and the expertise, to make it a success. Its
flagship site at the Tumaini Children’s
Center rests at the base of Mt. Kenya.
Along the way, Hope Runs trains the eldest for the Mt. Kilimanjaro
marathon and gives kids of all
ages the entrepreneurial skills to host
a Hope Runs 10K to raise money
for their orphanage. Tourists from all over pay
to enter the community race or to sponsor
a Hope Runner from afar.
The proceeds go straight to the kids.
Check out the Hope Runs
daily blog - the first on the internet
written by orphans – to bridge the distance between
donors at home and kids in Kenya.
And better yet, sponsor a Hope Runner from afar,
or book a tour of Kenya through Hope Runs. For
