Looking for a reason to head east? The Chinese New Year is Feb 7-9 this year; and there’s no better place to celebrate it than Hong Kong.
Three days before the New Year, parades of dancing lions and dragons stomp down the streets to the beating of drums. And those who would rather shop than party are in luck—most stores in Hong Kong get caught up in the festivities by offering huge clearance sales with merchandise sometimes up to half off.
If you get hungry from all the excitement, don’t fret: The Chinese indulge themselves in symbolic foods like clams and spring rolls, representing wealth, or fish for good wishes and abundance. Tangerines and oranges are also passed out to the crowds.
Ring in the Chinese New Year with a bang by experiencing one of the world’s largest fireworks displays streaming off barges in Victoria Harbor.
