MARTHA’S VINEYARD, MA
VINEYARD HEAVEN

Pristine beaches, endless bike trails, charming whaling villages, Martha’s Vineyard has it all.

Best spots for coffee and an early breakfast? Black Dog in Vineyard Haven, the Plane View diner at the airport in Farm Neck, or the diner at the lighthouse in Aquinnah.

Favorite beach for spending the day? Many of the best beaches require beach keys or a town beach pass, like Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket in Chilmark, Quansu in West Tisbury, and the Wequobsque Cliffs (the Vineyard’s answer to Big Sur) on the south shore in Chilmark, where you can cover yourself with clay from the natural pools and then body surf yourself clean. But for public access try South Beach in Edgartown for its famous surf and the beach along Philbin in Aquinnah for spectacular sunsets.

For food, grab sandwiches for a beach picnic at Humphrey’s, pick up just-caught fish to grill at Larsen’s in Menemsha or The Net Result in Vineyard Haven, and hit the farmer’s market at Morning Glory Farm. It’s also fun to pick your own blueberries at Murphy Blueberry Farm in Chilmark. Romantic dinner… may never happen, but it’s always good to know! The Outermost Inn in Aquinnah, owned by James Taylor’s brother, Huey, is the best spot for an intimate dinner for two. Make sure to book a table at sunset.

And if you really want to get away from it all, take a kayak out on one of the ponds. It’s easy to leave the world behind, and know it will all be there for you when you are ready to return.
