Scandinavian design has undergone something of a renaissance in the last couple of years, with Sweden as the major player. And Stockholm is filled with some of the finest retail wonders in Europe.

Start at the distinctive Svenskt Tenn, the flagship Strandvägen boutique, for furniture, textiles and gifts. Continue walking to Östermalmstorg, where you’ll find Modernity, a treasure chest of Scandinavian furniture and glassware. Carry on to 10 Swedish Designers, a great place to pick up gifts from Swedish designers and then hit Jacksons on Sibyllegatan, which will tempt even the most hardened maximalist to embrace vintage Scandinavian.

And don’t leave town without purchasing some local schnapps. Buying from the highly regulated, state-owned Systembolaget is an experience in itself.
