POP ART

Art and fashion collide at © Murakami (Oct 29, 2007 – Feb 11, 2008) at MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary in LA’s Little Tokyo. A gigantic exhibit occupying over 35,000 sq. ft., and featuring over 90 works ranging from painting and sculpture to installation and film, this is the most comprehensive collection of the artist's work to date.

Arguably the most internationally acclaimed artist to emerge from Asia in recent years, Takashi Murakami has been called the “Andy Warhol of Japan” for his effortless navigation between the worlds of fine art and pop culture. In this large-scale retrospective, key pieces from the past ten years are on display, including early political works, the ongoing evolution of Murakami’s anime alter-ego, DOB, and an exploration of his large-scale otaku-inspired figure projects of the late 90s. There’s also a feature-length animated film called kaikai & kiki.

And don’t forget to pick up a limited edition Murakami designed Louis Vuitton bag in the Louis store that’s part of the exhibit – their collaboration continues.
