HOLIDAY HIDEAWAY

Images of turkey and mashed potatoes dancing in your head? By the time you say pumpkin pie, it’ll be time to start planning the holidays for next year, and we have the perfect place for you: a few days at a French farmhouse, Comptoir Saint-Hilaire, a charming oasis with room for the whole family.

Owner and children’s clothing designer, Catherine Painvin designed each of the rooms in honor of the once 17th century, 140 acre sheep farm on which the property resides. Olive trees, old leather club chairs, even separate antique bath tubs for two.

And as anyone familiar with the South of France will tell you, don't plan for August. Not because you'd rather be lounging at Cap Estel, but because it's the busiest and often hottest time of year. That gives you a good few months to plan for May or November, when the temp is friendly enough for hiking in the Cévennes, or taking a day trip to Provence for the Sunday morning antiques market in lsle-sur-la-Sorgue.

Okay. Thought over. Now back to the holidays. We’ll be off tomorrow enjoying our turkey dinner!
