EPOPEYA MURAL

In recognition of the 50th anniversary of Deigo Rivera’s death on November 24th, more than 180 works are showcased throughout eight halls in Mexico City’s grand Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts). And what better locale to celebrate the life of Guanajuato native than the museum where he painted Man, Controller of the Universe?

This smaller mural, which was created in 1934 in homage of the one destroyed in Rockefeller Center in Manhattan—because he wouldn’t remove an image of Vladimir Lenin—can still be seen today. Alongside this mural hang sketches for glass, mural works, portraits, landscapes, popular figures, animals and social paintings. It is the most comprehensive Rivera exhibition to date.
