New Year's Eve isn't always what it's cracked up to be, but if you’re looking for the best fireworks celebration in the world, we vote for the fireworks off the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Granted there are a million happy Aussies and sun-burned visitors taking in the display, but it’s extravagant and artfully produced (80,000 fireworks set off from the elegant arch of Sydney Harbour Bridge) and the best thing about it - Sydney is the first of any major city to toast the New Year so not only will you be the first to bring in 2008 but you’ll do it in short sleeves and open-toed shoes.
The next day: A dip at Camp Cove Beach in Watson’s Bay, and a nap in the sun.
