Built into the tropical flora and fauna in Tulum are the eco-conscious villas of Azulik. Fifteen deluxe studio-size cabanas constructed out of local hardwoods
accommodate couples and honeymooners with a king size bed, bathtubs cut from tree trucks—one inside, the other on the deck overlooking the beach—two floating beds and a private bathroom.
Designed for relaxation, Azulik pampers guests with fundamental basics often
lost in big cities; the sounds of waves crashing on the beach, birds singing, and candlelight after dark. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows provide 360-degree
breathtaking views of the beach, palms and sky.
Living without electricity will have you up at sunrise to join EcoTulum’s other neighboring resort Copal, and its guests, for a morning yoga session. After sweating out some toxins, enjoy local dishes and tropical fruit before indulging in a treatment or two at Maya Spa.
Massages can be taken during the day or under the stars surrounded by candles at the beach. Extra special is temazcal, a sweat lodge purification lead by a local shaman inside a dark concrete igloo. This ancient Mayan healing method has been practiced for hundreds of years by indigenous Mexicans. The hour and a half long process utilizes volcanic stones on fire, cenote blessed water to create steam, herbs and chanting to cleanse the body, mind and soul.
