If you love wine as much as we do, here's a fun thing to do the next time you're visiting California wine country… especially when zooming from one restaurant to the next, pairing Pinots with fine cheeses and decadent desserts, and you're feeling a bit desperate for a workout.
Continue being a hedonist, just take some responsibility for your health. Kill two birds with one stone. In Yountville, rent bicycles from Napa Valley Bike Tours (on the main street in Yountville) where they have a plethora of bikes to choose from, each one with a generous handlebar bag to put your water and phone. One of the sales associates will give you a map and help you plan your route.
Start out past Thomas Keller's French Laundry, then ride amongst the rows of vineyards and take in the bliss of the passing landscape, feeling the sense of well being from getting some exercise, not to mention being able to savor the moment, rather than flying by in a car. Turn onto one of the smaller roads, and take your choice of vineyards, sampling some vino, before weaving happily back to the rental shop, giddy, well exercised and ready for a bite.
For the best lunch in town, try Bouchon. If you don't have time to sit down, grab a sandwich at Bouchon Bakery. Their Nicoise salad sandwich is like no other. And their desserts are melt-in-your-mouth good.
So for those of you who are cardio obsessed, and just as passionate about wine, this is the workout for you.
