TRADITIONAL TWIST

Looking for a place to kick back and get inspired? Try the just opened AnaYela, a small 300-year-old riad in the heart of Marrakech’s bustling Medina.

Completely renovated by owner Bernd Kolb, the riad offers not only rooms and services but a real Moroccan experience. Upon arrival, you’re given a pair of handmade Moroccan slippers to traipse around in and encouraged to discover and dive into the local culture.

To keep things authentic, the restoration of the building was carried out using only traditional Moroccan craftsmanship. All the work was done by hand by more than 100 artisans. Mohammed Taha, the most renowned calligrapher in Marrakech, even hammered the riad’s history on silver on the vast doors throughout the house (the riad is named after a girl named Yela who once lived in the house). All the furniture, lighting fixtures, and décor (down to the tableware) were designed by Bernd Kolb and Yannick Hervy and finished individually by Moroccan artisans.

The result: a piece of art itself.
