Looking for some summer fun? Try riverboarding, an up-and-coming sport that makes rafting look tame!
Riverboarding has been popular in Europe and New Zealand for years, and it’s just now catching on in the States. Basically you shoot the rapids while lying on your stomach on a riverboard (imagine dropping over a 20 foot waterfall). Perfect for adrenaline freaks!
Here are some of the best spots in the world to catch some whitewater:
Montana River Guides will take you on a guided riverboard trip down the Alberton Gorge. Along with rollicking Class 3 Rapids, there’s large recovery pools and spectacular canyon scenery. The perfect place to get introduced to the sport.
Clear Creek in Golden, Colorado, half an hour west of Denver, has some of the best whitewater for riverboarding in the US. RipBoard offers riverboarding lessons and instruction.
And if you prefer something more exotic, Bundu Adventures will organize riverboarding for you in Zambia. Charging the rapids and surfing the Zambezi River below Victoria Falls (Grade 5 Rapids) isn’t for the faint-hearted, but if you love an adrenalin kick, this is as good as it gets. On top of that, there’s great game viewing along the banks.
