Looking for some sporty fun this weekend? Hit Cowdray Park Polo Club for the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup Final (July 20).
The final of the British Open Championship and one of the highlights of the English Summer Season, a throng of celebrities, aristocrats and polo-lovers descend on Cowdray Park's lawns to watch world-class polo and soak up the sunshine.
And boy, what a setting this is for a game. The South Downs shimmer across the horizon and the Lawns Ground is overlooked by the splendid old Cowdray ruin, which reputedly burnt down after a gypsy placed a curse of death by fire and water upon the owners!
But forget the Bentleys and the champagne, the real spectacle is on the field. Exquisitely turned-out ponies thunder across the immaculately prepared turf and the best players in the world demonstrate their extraordinary skill, precision and dexterity. The excitement alone will keep you on the edge of your seat.
