COCKTAIL CULTURE

If you love a well-chilled dry martini, you’ll love The Museum of the American Cocktail. Giving us yet one more reason to visit New Orleans, this temple of higher mixology takes you through the fascinating two hundred year history of the American Cocktail via a mind-boggling collection of rare spirits, books, Prohibition-era literature and music, vintage cocktail shakers, glassware, tools, gadgets, and all manner of cocktail memorabilia. There are also some good multimedia presentations bringing cocktail history alive through film clips, interactive displays, sounds, and songs.

And when you’re finished with the museum, sit back and enjoy a Sazerac, that quintessential Big Easy concoction of Cognac and bitters – that locals dub the greatest cocktail in the world. (Sorry, Martini.) Although its number one status is open to interpretation, it is reported to be the first cocktail ever invented in America with its origins in pre-Civil War New Orleans.
