In Montreal, art clearly thrives on roads less traveled. Three of the city’s cultural institutions are rockin’ n’ rollin’ this winter - having chosen rock music as the theme for their exhibitions. Three museums, three different flavors:
The first, Warhol Live, a first-ever exhibition-event in the historiography of the iconic Andy, presented at the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts in partnership with The Andy Warhol Museum, explores the all-pervading and fundamental role of music and dance in the artist’s work and life. Through Jan 18.
The second, Sympathy for the Devil: Art and Rock and Roll Since 1967, at the Musée d’ art contemporain, explores the history of the relationship between avant-garde art and rock music over the past 40 years. Through Jan 11.
The third, REPLAY, is a North American premiere and major exhibition of audiovisual works by internationally-acclaimed artist Christian Marclay, taking place at the DHC/ART Foundation for Contemporary Art from Nov 30 - March 29.
