Not your usual polo. For a Thai twist on a classic sport, head to the eighth annual King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament (March 23-29) held at Anantara Golden Triangle in northern Thailand to benefit the Thai Elephant Conservation Center and the National Elephant Institute. One of the most fun events in Thailand, teams and spectators come from all over the world (some of the top horse polo players participate) to see twenty street elephants participate in the competition (a great opportunity for them to spend time away from the city in the lush landscape of the Golden Triangle).
Can’t make the tournament? Take a three-day mahout (elephant driver) training course at Anantara Golden Triangle’s Elephant Camp, in conjunction with Thailand’s National Elephant Institute.
Or share in the commitment to protect elephants through a donation. All proceeds collected at the tournament support the continued conservation of rescued elephants and their drivers from a life on the streets and will subsidize future rescues.
