Coachella. Whisper the word to any music fanatic and you’ll immediately provoke a response of awe-inspired interest. This once-a-year music fest (April 17-19) at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA is an extravaganza of blasting speakers, rockin’ shows, killer people watching, and a profusion of up-and-coming indie bands, but trust us, it’s worth braving the scorching sun for the three days of ear candy.
Yes, it’s hot. Really hot. And though jumping around with other enthusiastic fans has its merits, the sweat bath it induces is not especially enjoyable. Of course, the smoke proliferating the air is bad for your lungs. And the noise level is deafening. But with some careful planning and strategizing, all of these excuses become nothing but minor inconveniences, comprising just a few tiny thorns on a mind-blowingly beautiful flower. We mean, where else can you see over 30 bands in a span of only three days?
This year’s lineup includes: Devendra Banhart, The Chemical Brothers, The Killers, The Cure, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Thievery Corporation, and lots of up-and-coming indie bands.
