Sometimes you just want to get away from it all. For fresh air and mountain views, head to Jackson Hole, which trust us, isn’t just for skiing.
With hiking, mountain biking, paragliding, horseback riding, fly fishing, and kayaking just some of the outdoor pursuits you can partake in, the Grand Tetons are splendid in summertime. We recommend making the LEED-certified Hotel Terra your base for adventures into Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Their concierge will point you to all the secret stomping grounds for fishing, hiking, and rafting; and the Eco-Adventure Summer Package (starting at $174/night) is complete with a biologist-led eco wildlife tour, complimentary Flip Ultra video camera, and daily breakfast at the hotel’s Terra Cafe.
For folk music and mountain vistas, hit the Grand Targhee Festival (July 17-19).
And if you loved Dr. Seuss as much as we did as a kid, don’t miss the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s playful new exhibition featuring Dr. Seuss’s Lorax (through September 7), offering insight into Seuss’s creative process while spreading the Lorax’s timeless eco-message.
And though Seuss’s fantastical wildlife—Brown Bar-ba-loots, Swomee-Swans and Humming-Fish—might not be in the area, the wildlife viewing in Jackson Hole is incredible.
Just be sure to set aside time for a massage or a thermal soak with 100 percent organic products at the hotel’s Chill Spa.
