St. Lucia is quite possibly best known for its two volcanic spires, The Pitons, which rise dramatically from the calm Caribbean Sea on the island's southwest coast. Recently named the first of "five best places in the world to visit" (by darling Oprah), the area's best known hotels (Ladera and Jade Mountain) are stunners indeed - but tend to be knocking the $900 or more per night price point. Perhaps not a good match for many in these uncertain times. However...
