I love to run. There’s nothing better than a sunrise run to explore a new destination. So if you're like me and can’t wait to lace-up your running shoes when traveling, check out just a few of my favorite places to accomplish a quick 3-5 miles before starting the day. Also, visit runtheplanet.com for the world's best running routes.
Cape Town, South Africa: This picturesque city is a runner’s paradise. The views along its promenade in the coastal towns of Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Camps Bay are not only breathtaking, but primarily flat allowing for a long, swift run. The Ellerman House in Bantry Bay is ideal for easy access to this stretch of coastline.
New York, NY: Run with the locals in Central Park. The early morning hours are filled with an entire subculture of runners looking to work up a sweat before hectic city life sets in. For a unique running experience, check into the Empire Hotel on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The hotel is now offering a daily 5-mile running tour including a quick look at Central Park’s Strawberry Fields, the Museum of Natural History and Lincoln Center. In addition, you’ll receive a 10% discount on spa services at the Jeunesse Spa located next door!
London, UK: Hyde Park, filled with great running paths, is the perfect spot in this city to work up an early morning sweat. There are plenty of locals out in the early a.m. as well as a swimming club practicing in the park’s Serpentine Lake (although the lake's water looks a bit murky to me!).
Austin, TX: The trails around the town lake are beautiful, winding and a great way to feel like a local as they are filled with many joggers at sunrise.
Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico: Just north of Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta offers a beach perfect for runners! Although not the most beautiful beach in the world, the sand is firm and the stretch of beach in front of the Grand Velas allows for an invigorating 4-mile sprint.
For swimmers, book a room at the Viceroy next trip to Miami for access to the largest outdoor swimming pool in the city…the size of a football field!
Keep on running,
Lisa
