When you think of Puerto Rico and imagine San Juan, think again. Head over to the tiny beach town of Rincon on the western coast of the island for a completely different vibe than its touristy sister. Surfers and flip-flop clad locals hang ten and chill out on this side of paradise not as well known as the resort-ridden east coast.
Fly into Aguadilla airport, only 30 minutes from Rincon, for access to some of the best surfing beaches in the Caribbean. The famous big-wave spot of Tres Palmas is located on this part of the island and Rincon is known for its warm tropical water and off-shore breezes. Accommodations vary from the economical Rincon Beach Resort in the center of the "action" to the sophisticated Horned Dorset Primavera Hotel, a perfect spot for a secluded getaway.
