DESERT HIDEAWAY

Instead of chapped cheeks, frozen buns, and frostbite, rejuvenate in the desert sun. One of our favorite spots for a winter getaway? Sagewater Spa in the hills of Desert Hot Springs, California, where soaking in a pool of hot mineral water watching the sun set over the nearby mountains can only be described as nirvana.

This mid-century modern haven has seven studios with kitchenettes that surround Sagewater's centerpiece – a natural hot spring fed pool filled with silky water. The water bubbles up here in the middle of the desert at 165° F, pure and enriched with valuable minerals from deep within the earth. At Sagewater, this constant supply is cooled down to 105° F for the smaller pool, and 90° for the swimming pool itself.

Mineral water is used to treat many health conditions including asthma, arthritis, joint pain, migraines, and depression, and bathing in mineral water is an age-old secret for well-being (not to mention it leaves your skin feeling silky smooth!). And trust us, at Sagewater you’ll spend most of your time in the pool on account of this wonderful water. When you’re not lazing in the pool? There’s plenty of time to read, snooze, eat coffee cake (owner Rhoni Epstein’s great-grandmother’s recipe), sip a fresh caipirinha, make new friends, or have an impromptu BBQ.

What we love most about this special place? The water is the best we’ve tried anywhere, owners Rhoni and Cristina make you feel like you’re at home, and slipping into the crisp Frette linens after soaking in the pool for hours is as good as it gets!
