ROOM WITH A VIEW

Perched on one of the highest points of Tortola's west side lies Frenchman's Lookout. A private 10,000 square-foot plantation-style villa with fifteen rooms, including five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a top-of-the-line gourmet eat-in kitchen, and formal dining room, the villa is one of the nicest properties available on the island of Tortola. The best part about it? It was all mine for four nights, along with a few of my BFFs.

The British Virgin Islands are some of my favorite islands in the Caribbean. The elevation and landscape of these islands are unlike any others I have seen. Each island is slightly different; some offer quiet serenity while others have vibrant, cultural undertones.

Let's start with the view... The vistas around the villa are unparalleled. With sweeping views from almost every point, the large wraparound, veranda-style balcony, complete with eight hammocks, summoned me each day, and graciously I answered its call. The beauty of the BVIs were laid out before me as if to say "paint me!" Ah, if only I were that talented!

Now for Gloria... Gloria is the villa's beloved housekeeper and cook. Each morning the smell of freshly brewed coffee, crisp bacon, fluffy eggs and steaming, assorted muffins scented the air. Her gracious and welcoming hospitality was the perfect way to begin the day.

Days consisted of lazy afternoons lounging by the pool or adventurous boat excursions to one of the other islands, courtesy of the villa's private boat and captain. Whether snorkeling around Virgin Gorda or grabbing a drink at Jost Van Dyke's outdoor bar, Foxy's, the BVIs hold a multitude of pleasures. Nights allowed for outdoor grilling in the villa's gazebo complete with a state-of-the-art barbeque. There's also a gym on the premises should one have the need to work up a sweat.

Rates are reasonable considering 10 guests can easily be accommodated. Perfect for a family reunion or friends' getaway, Frenchman's Lookout provided my friends and I with the ultimate BVI experience!

Safe Travels,
Lisa
