SHOP 'TIL YOU DROP

Hong Kong is a magical place. When I'm asked what the city is all about, I like to say it's a futuristic New York City, with greener landscapes! It always amazes me when I visit how cell phones work in the subways and sidewalks move to carry people from point A to point B. But while discovering this cosmopolitan city, don't miss neighborhoods and shopping districts that are not usually on the radar. Here are just a few:

Filled with antique shops and trinket stands, Hollywood Road is a shopper's haven. I spent hours browsing (and buying) Chinese artifacts and goods.

Lying in the southern part of Hong Kong, Repulse Bay houses some of the most expensive properties in Hong Kong. A ride on any of the major bus routes from the Central District, such as the number 6 or 6A, will get you there. It's a beautiful ride and a great way to spend the day outside the city.

Hong Kong has lots of outdoor markets scattered throughout the city, however, I think the most interesting is Sheung Wan, a public market with entire floors devoted to fish, fruit, and quaint restaurants.

Stanley Market is a tourist trap... yes, I agree... but it's worth it just for the ride over! Be sure to sit on the top level of the double-decker for views of the beautiful rocky coastline and outlying islands.

And be sure to haggle! You can bargain with anyone on anything in Hong Kong! And with the money saved you may just be able to afford one night at the Presidential Suite of the Intercontinental Hong Kong!

Safe Travels,
Lisa
