It's the little things you find while traveling that make for a memorable journey. The crisp, white sheets and fluffy pillows in a gorgeous hotel room, the perfect pour of a full-bodied red in an elegantly-shaped wine glass, and finding the most delectable scoop of ice cream or gelato while strolling through a teeny town or crowded city street. So being the ice cream freak that I am, here are some of my favorite icy finds around the globe (to warm your heart in this dreadful winter!).
While basking in the hot Puerto Rican sunshine, drive over to Ponce to experience King's Ice Cream. They have been scooping out tropical flavors of ice cream for two generations and are considered the best on the island!
In Paris, I stumbled upon Pozzetto in the Marais during a late night out with friends... a sinfully satisfying find!
While in Toronto check out the Kensington Market Organic Ice Cream shop on Queen West. No larger than the size of a walk-in closet, they offer unique flavors such as Mo'fi (molasses and figs).
When visiting Melbourne in the land down under, check out any of the Trampoline shops. Their gelato is made fresh daily.
In London, for a true taste of summer, find any curbside ice cream cart and ask for a cone of soft serve along with a "99," a chocolate flake (or stick). The "full cream" soft serve will keep you satisfied until dinner.
In Lima, Peru, on the advice of Monica from Yampu Tours, I checked out Gelateria Laritza on Av. Comandante Espinar 800, in Miraflores. With fruits indigenous only to Peru, you'll find some unique flavors. So take a try of the Lucuma-flavored ice cream...you can't go wrong!
In Playa del Carmen, Mexico, Gelateria de Alma located on Calle Corazon between 5th and 10 Avenue is a must-visit. Try their hazelnut! Not to be confused with the more popular Ciao Gelato on 5th Avenue in Playa.
And last, but definitely not least, in New York City Emack and Bolio on Amsterdam Avenue and 78th Street can't be beat. Love their Grasshopper Pie flavor!
Safe Travels,
Lisa
