Time to dust of the mallets and head out to the pitch! The elephant pitch, that is, as Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa once again plays host to the ninth annual King's Cup Elephant Polo Tournament, March 22-28.
One of Thailand's liveliest events, the King's Cup has raised over $250,000 for the National Elephant Institute, which provides medical care, sustenance, employment, and mahout training for Thailand's elephant population. Proceeds from the 2009 event helped fund the world's first ever elephant therapy program, Thai Elephant Therapy Project (TETP), that investigates the benefits of using elephants as an alternative treatment for children with autism. This year's event proceeds will go towards the continued funding of this groundbreaking research.
To celebrate the festivities, Anantara Golden Triangle is offering a Special Spectator Package, including accommodations, breakfast buffet, lunch at the Polo Pitch, and transfers to and from the match.
Can't make the tournament? Take a three-day mahout (elephant driver) training course at Anantara Golden Triangle's Elephant Camp, in conjunction with Thailand's National Elephant Institute.
Or share in the commitment to protect elephants through a donation.
