Wednesday we went to Kefalonia and Santorini, today we bring you Part Two of our insider guide to the Aegean's most amazing isles.
Ithaca: Kefalonia's smaller, wilder and more windswept neighbor wears its mythological mystique on its cypress-lined sleeve - the island is the reputed home of Homeric hero Odysseus.
The great escape: Head to the stunning sandy beach of Agios Ioannis on Ithaca's western coast and look across the sea to Kefalonia while you paddle in emerald-green water. Adventurers can wander along the two paths leading from Vathi to the ancient Fountain of Arethusa and the enormous Cave of Nymphs, where Odysseus is said to have hidden treasure.
Eat up: Delicious lobster and hearty helpings of lamb have been served at Paliocaravo, a harborside haunt in Vathi, for 25 years. It's also known as Gregory's Taverna; owner Gregory still lands the catch of the day himself.
Bed down: Perantzada Hotel, a laid-back but luxurious villa set in a former naval college in Vathi is our favorite place to sleep. The stone-lined, glass-edged infinity pool is surrounded by inviting loungers and looks out over the harbor.
Mykonos: A long-time jet-set favorite, this party hotspot attracts a dedicated coterie of toned and tanned models and moguls.
The great escape: Evade the crowds on the west side of the island, where the picturesque beach of Agios Yannis offers white sands and a collection of small coves; alternatively, Agios Sostis is a peaceful spot with an excellent fish taverna.
Drink up: Caprice in Mykonos Town's Little Venice is a breezy waterfront bar with stunning sunset vistas over the island's landmark windmills.
Bed down: Sleep at designer den Bill & Coo, a beachside slice of minimalist Miami; book a Grande Suite so you can admire the Aegean from your private plunge pool.
